Music Theatre & Opera at LVC
At Lebanon Valley College, music theatre and opera are student-centered, collaborative, and community-driven. Students gain hands-on experience both onstage and behind the scenes while creating work that serves audiences of all ages from infants experiencing live theatre for the first time to lifelong arts patrons in the Central Pennsylvania community.
Our programs emphasize artistic excellence, accessibility, mentorship, and experiential learning. Whether students are performers, directors, designers, technicians, musicians, educators, or creators, they are actively involved in the creative process from day one.
One of the defining features of the LVC Music Theatre and Opera programs is our commitment to creating meaningful theatrical experiences for audiences across generations.
-
Theatre for the Very Young
Created specifically for children ages 0–5, these immersive and interactive musical performances introduce young audiences to live storytelling, music, movement, and sensory exploration in a welcoming environment designed for early childhood engagement.
-
Touring Opera
Our Touring Opera brings live performance directly into schools for students in grades K–4. As a community initiative, schools are never charged for performances, helping make arts access available to more students throughout the region.
-
Children’s Musical
Produced in collaboration with the LVC Music Department’s Community Music Institute, the Children’s Musical serves performers in grades 2–8 while giving LVC students opportunities to mentor, teach, direct, and collaborate with young artists.
-
Summer Music Theatre Intensive
Designed for students in grades 9–12, this summer intensive offers focused training in performance and technical theatre design. Participants work alongside college faculty, artists, and student mentors in an immersive creative environment.
-
LVC Opera & Music Theatre
At the collegiate level, students participate in fully staged productions that range from contemporary musicals and chamber works to classic opera and new theatrical experiences.
The LVC Music Theatre and Opera programs are committed to accessibility in every aspect of our work. We believe the performing arts should be welcoming and engaging for all audiences and participants.
Our accessibility initiatives include:
- A dedicated sensory-friendly performance of the spring musical every year, regardless of the production title or content.
- Audio-described performances in collaboration with Central Pennsylvania audio describer Nicole Sardella Audio Description Services.
- Community-centered programming designed to reduce barriers to arts participation.
- Free Touring Opera performances for schools and educational partners.
Through these initiatives, students learn not only artistic practices, but also how accessibility and inclusion are essential components of contemporary theatre-making.
