In addition to our Academic Support programs, including peer, writing, and organizational tutoring, students also can work with an academic success specialist on a weekly, bi-weekly, or one-off basis. The academic success specialist is a professional staff member who mentors students by designing and implementing an individualized plan for academic success.
Through these coaching sessions, students work with the academic success specialist to improve skills that may not be taught in the classroom. Some examples of these focus areas are:
I improved as a student immensely knowing I had someone supporting me and rooting for me outside my family and department. These meetings contributed to my academic success because I was able to talk through study strategies with Hannah and learn study issues that I could avoid in the future.

Julian and Bartz Share Expertise with ABC TV 27
Beth Julian ’09, assistant dean of student success and retention, and Sarah Bartz ’08, director of academic success, shared their commitment to mentorship and how LVC faculty and staff closely mentor students to ensure their academic and personal success. The pair were interviewed by Reporter Amy Kehm for WHTM ABC TV 27’s Good Day PA in August 2020 as part of their Back to School series.
