Low or Dropping Grades?

Talk to Your Professors & Advisor

Your professors and academic advisor want you to succeed. Email them or stop by during office hours to discuss where you’re struggling—whether it’s understanding the material, keeping up with assignments, or managing your workload. Being proactive shows that you care, and it helps them help you.

Use Academic Resources

These free services through the Center for Academic Success and Exploration (CASE) are available to help you stay on track:

  • Peer Tutoring: Available for most 100–200 level courses. Book sessions via Starfish.
  • Writing Support: Work with a Writing Tutor or First-Year Experience (FYE) Writing Mentor—no grammar shaming here, just real help.
  • Organizational Tutoring: Work with an Organizational Tutor to take control of your schedule and learn some techniques to master Canvas and your assignments.
  • Academic Coaching: One-on-one support to build time management skills, study habits, and motivation.
  • Study Groups & Skill Workshops: Offered regularly on topics like organization, exam prep, and managing academic anxiety.

Worried You Won’t Pass a Class?

Even if you’re feeling like you’ve fallen too far behind, don’t give up before talking to someone. You may have more options than you think—like pass/fail, incomplete grades, or course withdrawal. Explore the academic policies in the College Catalog or reach out to your faculty advisor or the team CASE for a one-on-one consultation. You can also raise a flag on Starfish to request help.

Need Accommodations?

If your struggles are related to a disability or a health condition, contact the Center for Accessibility Resources. They can help you explore accommodations and advocate for the tools you need to succeed.

Dealing with Unexpected Life Events?

Life can get complicated. Illness, family emergencies, mental health struggles, or unexpected challenges can disrupt your academic experience—and that’s okay. You’re not expected to power through it alone.

We believe every student should be able to focus on learning—not worrying about where their next meal is coming from or how they’ll afford course supplies. Dutchmen Support provides confidential assistance with purchasing textbooks and school supplies, accessing nutritious food or hygiene products, finding clothing for class, work, or interviews, and other urgent, essential needs.

Dorm Life Troubles?

Living on campus is a central part of the LVC experience—but disruptions like roommate conflicts, maintenance concerns, or housing policy questions can be stressful. Here’s how to navigate issues in your residence hall:

  • Start with an open, respectful chat with your roommate.
  • Still stuck? Contact your RA or Area Coordinator—they’re your first-line support.
  • Notice maintenance or security concerns? Report them immediately to your RA or Residential Life.
  • Want a room change? Speak to your Residential Life team and review policy guidelines.

Remember, dorm life is about learning, growing, and building community—and asking for help when things aren’t working is part of that experience. Your Residential Life team is here to ensure your living environment is safe, respectful, and supportive.

Want to Report a Concern?

If you’re facing a situation that involves discrimination, harassment, or a violation of student conduct policies—don’t stay silent. LVC takes your concerns seriously.

  • Bias or Title IX Reporting: Submit a report if you’ve experienced or witnessed bias, discrimination, or harassment.
  • Academic or Student Conduct Concerns: Report issues related to academic integrity, classroom behavior, or campus conduct.
You Belong. Let Us Help You Stay Here.

If you’re struggling in multiple classes, or if this semester isn’t going as planned, CASE can help you create an individualized action plan. This might include:

  • Setting short- and long-term goals
  • Connecting you with your advisor or a CARE Team member
  • Exploring course withdrawal or academic policies (in collaboration with the Registrar)
  • Finding the right people and resources on campus to support your well-being

Asking for help is one of the strongest things you can do. You don’t need to have all the answers. You just need to take the first step.
