Take Your Passion for Exercise Science to the Next Level

If you’re ready to make a real impact in healthcare—whether through cardiac rehab, clinical diagnostics, or helping patients manage chronic conditions—Lebanon Valley College’s Master of Science in Clinical Exercise Physiology (MSCEP) can help you get there.

This accredited graduate program combines online flexibility with hands-on clinical experience, preparing you for careers in clinical exercise physiology or related healthcare fields. It’s also a great next step if you’re thinking about physical therapy, medical school, or other professional studies down the road.

Earn Your Master’s in Clinical Exercise Physiology

The MSCEP program is designed to be completed in just 12 months of coursework, followed by four months of clinical placement (or 600 hours)—allowing you to graduate and start your career faster. Here’s how it works:

  • You’ll complete three consecutive semesters of coursework—Fall, Spring, and Summer.
  • You’ll take graduate-level courses in topics like ECG interpretation, pharmacology, clinical testing, and rehabilitation.
  • After completing your courses, you’ll complete a 600-hour clinical internship in the field.

Flexible Format, National Reach

One of the biggest advantages of LVC’s program is flexibility. The coursework is mostly online, so you can study from wherever you live. You’ll only need to come to campus for one residency weekend per semester, where you’ll engage with faculty, practice clinical skills, and connect with your cohort.

And when it comes time for your internship? You can complete it anywhere in the country. Students have trained in hospitals and clinics from Pennsylvania and New York to Utah and California.

LVC’s program isn’t just flexible—it’s also nationally recognized. It’s one of only 16 programs in the country accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP). That accreditation signals quality, rigor, and strong outcomes for students like you.

Develop Advanced Clinical Skills and Prepare for ACSM Certification

This program is designed to build your confidence and competence in real clinical environments. When you graduate from LVC’s MSCEP program, you’ll be able to:

  • Interpret both normal and abnormal ECGs
  • Assess patients’ medical history and health status
  • Conduct clinical exercise tests with various populations, including cardiac patients
  • Understand how exercise and medication affect the body—and how to use that knowledge to improve patient outcomes

You’ll also be eligible to sit for the ACSM Clinical Exercise Physiologist certification exam, putting you one step closer to becoming a certified healthcare professional in a fast-growing field.

And because the internship is supervised by certified professionals, you’ll have guidance every step of the way.

What Can You Do with a Master’s in Clinical Exercise Physiology?

Many LVC graduates go on to work in cardiac rehab or cardiac diagnostics, but that’s not the only path. You can also find opportunities in:

  • Pulmonary rehabilitation
  • Bariatric and weight management programs
  • Medically supervised exercise clinics
  • Hospital-based exercise testing programs

Some students also use the program as a launchpad for further graduate or professional education, like becoming a physical therapist, physician assistant, or medical doctor.

The most recent graduating class (December 2024) had a 100% job placement rate in the field of Clinical Exercise Physiology. LVC alumni are now working in health systems like UPMC, WellSpan Health, Penn State Health, and Atlantic Health.

That means the training you receive here isn’t just theoretical—it translates directly into real jobs helping real patients.
