Design, Media, & Technology Spaces and Equipment

LVC Maker Space logo

Maker Space

LVC’s Maker Space provides students in Digital Media, Interaction Design, and other majors with the tools to move seamlessly from ideation to fabrication. Equipped with laser cutting, a desktop CNC machine, five 3D printers, a vacuum former, and electronics workstations, the space allows students to transition their ideas from digital models into physical prototypes. A dedicated teaching area supports instruction and collaboration.

Modeled on the FabLab concept, the Maker Space enables students to work through the full creative process—from conceptualizing ideas in digital formats to fabricating tangible objects. This integration of digital design and hands-on making allows for rapid prototyping, iteration, and problem-solving.

Students use the space to develop prototypes, create interactive installations, and experiment with combining digital and physical media.

LVC Emerging Media Lab logo

Emerging Media Lab

The Emerging Media Lab (EML) provides LVC students with an understanding of and exposure to disruptive technologies, allow them to assess the strengths and weaknesses of these technologies, and aid in developing design strategies for them.

The lab embodies the testing of ideas, behaviors, and actions that students encounter while using emerging media, and encourages them to explore the technologies that have the potential to change the landscape of the field.

Classes devoted to emerging media, such as augmented reality and emerging media design, are offered every spring. Students in existing Digital Media or Interaction Design classes can also encounter emerging media in assignments or case studies.

The Emerging Media Lab is equipped with Augmented Reality (three HoloLens 2 headsets), Virtual/Mixed Reality headsets (10 Meta Quest 2 and four early Oculus Rift headsets), touch screens, and projection mapping. The department looks to explore other emerging media such as spatial projection, eye tracking, voice recognition, and more.

The Emerging Media Lab is made possible by donors and alumni.

Usability Lab & Studio Lounge

In the Usability Lab, learn to conduct usability research on your designs.

The Studio Lounge provides a space for you to collaborate with your peers while surrounded by inspiring work.
