LVC Music Professor to be Inducted into Steinway & Sons Teacher Hall of Fame

Dr. Eric Fung, Carmean Endowed Professor of Music, will be inducted into the Steinway & Sons Teacher Hall of Fame this fall for contributions to music education.

The Steinway Teacher Hall of Fame recognizes exceptional music educators who have demonstrated outstanding teaching, performance, and advocacy for piano education. Inductees’ names are painted on the walls of the Steinway factory in New York, honoring their contributions to musical excellence and education.

“This prestigious recognition from Steinway & Sons is a testament to Dr. Fung’s exceptional talent and dedication as a teacher, and the caliber of excellence exhibited by our Music faculty and majors,” said Dr. Michelle Maldonado, LVC Provost. “We are proud to celebrate this honor and the profound impact our faculty have on our students, the arts, and the regional musical community.”

As the Music Department’s primary piano faculty, Fung teaches applied piano lessons and coaches collaborative performances. His courses also include keyboard harmony, piano pedagogy, and piano literature. Fung serves on the audition, competition, and jury panel and assists in recruiting prospective students.

Fung, who has taught at LVC since 2005, is also the Director of the Carmean Music Series. In that role, he coordinates campus visits by renowned artists who perform and host masterclass workshops for students.

In addition to his mentorship of LVC students, Fung has conducted masterclasses and lectures at numerous institutions and professional organizations around the world including China, Israel, Spain, Taiwan, and the U.S. Since 2014, he has served on the faculty of the Lancaster International Piano Festival where he teaches applied piano lessons to pre-college students and piano performance majors from over 30 countries.

Fung, who remains an active performer, also received frequent invitations to adjudicate regional and international competitions, such as the New Jersey Music Teachers Association, Massachusetts Music Teachers Association, Greater Princeton Steinway Competition, and Nanyang Academic of Fine Arts Competition in Singapore.

Fung earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from The Eastman School of Music and a Doctorate of Musical Arts in Piano Performance from The Juilliard School.
