Dr. Sarah Shupp Named Interim Vice President of Student Affairs
Already known as a smiling face around campus, Dr. Sarah Shupp assumed a new leadership role as Interim Vice President of Student Affairs after Dr. Bob Mikus left for another opportunity this summer. Get to know more about Dr. Shupp in this Q&A.
How would you describe LVC in 10 words or fewer?
A supportive community focused on growth, belonging, and academic excellence.
What is one of your favorite Valley memories?
The annual march to Kreiderheim after an LVC football win over Albright College. This is a unique campus tradition because it only occurs when LVC defeats Albright. There’s something special about seeing hundreds of students crossing the Fasick Bridge over Route 934 together, the band playing, the cheerleaders cheering, and Leroy our mascot) leading the way. It’s a joyful, spirited tradition—especially when students ask the President for a day off (and the staff get one, too)! Moments like that truly capture the sense of pride and community that make LVC a special place to be.
What do you most want students to know about Student Affairs?
The Student Affairs team is deeply committed to supporting our students and enriching their college experience. Whether you’re navigating a serious challenge or just need help figuring something out, we’re here as a resource. Our goal is to help you thrive, both in and out of the classroom.
We truly believe there’s a place for everyone at LVC, and we’re here to help you find your niche, build friendships, and feel a sense of belonging. From late-night events to weekend on-call support, we’re the people behind the scenes working to keep you safe, connected, and engaged. We’re dedicated to helping you make the most of your college experience and grow into the person you’re meant to become.
What inspired you to work in higher ed?
When I first started my college journey by taking classes at my local community college, I quickly realized how much I didn’t know about college life. As a first-generation student, no one in my family had been to college, so I often felt unsure of myself and unsure of where to go to for help. But over time, as I got used to the rhythm of classes and got involved in campus activities, I began to really enjoy the experience and gained confidence in accessing campus resources.
Transferring to a four-year school opened even more doors for me. I became an Orientation Leader and discovered how much I loved welcoming new students and their families, especially those who were first-generation like me. That experience sparked a passion for education and student support that’s been with me ever since. I’m grateful to have spent the past two decades in a role I truly love: supporting students as they navigate and grow through college.
