LVC Clinical Mental Health Counseling Students Earn 100% National Counselor Exam Pass Rate

Eleven students of Lebanon Valley College’s Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (CMHC) program achieved a 100% pass rate on the National Counselor Examination, surpassing the national pass rate of 89%. All LVC students who attempted the exam in the first half of the calendar year are now one step closer to becoming licensed professional counselors.

“A 100% first-time pass rate is an outstanding achievement that reflects the dedication of our students and the strength of our Clinical Mental Health Counseling program,” said Dr. Jeremy Goshorn, Program Director and Assistant Professor of Clinical Mental Health Counseling. “Exceeding the national average demonstrates that our students are well prepared to become licensed counselors who will provide compassionate, high-quality care and make a meaningful impact in their communities.”

Lebanon Valley College integrates exam preparation into its 60-credit curriculum that received accreditation from the Council for Accreditation and Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Taught by practicing clinicians, LVC’s CMHC program features courses on trauma counseling, creative arts in counseling, and crisis intervention and prevention. Students also complete a 700-hour supervised internship and practicum, allowing them to apply classroom learning in real-world counseling settings before graduating.

“Our goal has never been to prepare students simply to pass an exam,” added Goshorn. “We prepare them to become skilled, ethical counselors who are ready to use evidence-based approaches to meet the growing mental health needs of their communities. The exceptional pass rate is a reflection of the comprehensive education, clinical training, and faculty mentorship our students receive throughout the program.”

Graduates of LVC’s CMHC program work in community mental health agencies, hospitals and health systems, private and group practices, schools and universities, and substance-use treatment centers.
