Key Points:

  • LVC’s marching band will perform in a European city’s New Year’s parade for the second time in five years.
  • More than 100 students, representing almost every major, will participate.

Lebanon Valley College’s Pride of The Valley Marching Band will participate in Rome’s New Year’s Day Parade at the turn of the year 2026/2027. The invitation came from Bob Bone, founder and chair of some of Europe’s most spectacular turn-of-the-year traditions.

“I am thrilled that the College’s marching band was invited to perform in the internationally celebrated Rome New Year parade,” said Dr. Chris Heffner, Director of the Pride of The Valley Marching Band and Co-chair and Professor of Music. “It is a remarkable recognition of our marching band’s talents and reputation. This will be a defining part of the LVC experience for the 100 students who have already committed to attend.”

The marching band and other musicians will have an educational week in the historic city, performing in the parade and immersing in a full educational program, visiting museums, historic sites, and places of architectural and artistic interest. The Pride of The Valley performed at the London New Year’s Day Parade on Jan. 1., 2022.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to lead the band through such an incredible performance experience,” said Grace Geiselman ’28. “Performing in such an amazing country, and at such an exciting event, will be something that we will all carry with us for the rest of our lives.”

The 2027 event celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Rome Parade. The gala will be screened live worldwide, and highlights will air on PBS in the U.S.

“It is exciting to check traveling abroad off my bucket list, and to do so while participating in what I love most: Music!,” added Katie Mileshosky ’28. “I look forward to leading my bandmates through Rome’s streets and to the memories I will create with some of my closest friends.”

The Pride of the Valley is an ensemble of approximately 135 students representing nearly every major on campus.
