Students receiving tour of audio studio

Music Business

Every performer needs an audience. With a music business degree from LVC, you'll gain the skills in marketing, production, and management needed to bring acts to center stage.

You’ll work in the industry while you’re still a student—gaining experience that will set you up to work for a record label or a touring company or in events management. For musicians interested in our music program, a music business concentration provides valuable insight on how the industry works. If you’d like to broaden your skills in marketing and production, consider double-majoring in Digital Communications.

Need-based departmental scholarships are available for students who qualify.

Learn More About the Program

The music industry requires skills in both art and commerce, and in LVC’s music business major, you’ll learn both. You’ll also receive extensive music instruction from accomplished performers, and get the chance to flex your production skills through our student-run theater company, Wig & Buckle. To apply for the music business program, you’ll need to audition (but don’t sweat it; visit our audition info page for what you can expect).

In Their Words

I was attracted to LVC by VALE Records. I was intrigued by the possibilities and potential of a student-run music organization that focuses on recording albums and planning a conference for other people who aspire to be in the music industry after college.
Logan Polak ’25, Music Business
I learned so much about being a leader, the music business, and business in general through my time with VALE Music Group. I was also able to gain and maintain a lot of industry connections which I still use today, and led me into my first job out of college.
Ally Hepp ’19, AV Specialist, University of Maryland Baltimore County
I’m always impressed with the Music Business students as I watch them grow both in business knowledge and musicality. The student-run VALE Music Group provides them with the hands-on tool set they will need to prosper in any industry, providing a wide range of employment opportunities.
