Equipment and Instrumentation

Neidig-Garber Science Center upholds a more than 50-year tradition of student-faculty research using state-of-the-art scientific equipment.

The revitalized Neidig-Garber Science Center offers biology, chemistry, and physics students laboratory experiences with a range of equipment and instrumentation. Neidig-Garber Science Center has:

  • eight teaching laboratories including two first-year labs
  • nine student research laboratories
  • a biotechnology suite
  • a microscopy suite with SEM and TEM
  • two greenhouses
  • an animal room with cage washer
  • an aquatics room
  • cell and tissue culture rooms
  • photographic darkrooms and a printing room
  • a walk-in environmental chamber
  • wireless access through the entire building
  • several study rooms and lounge areas

Students benefit from hands-on training with modern instrumentation. Major teaching/research instrumentation includes:

  • ISI scanning electron microscope
  • Zeiss transmission electron microscope
  • ultramicrotomes
  • photomicroscopes
  • fluorescence microscopes
  • IWorx data collections stations in the physiology labs
  • ultracentrifuge
  • high-speed centrifuges
  • several Ocean Optics spectrometers
  • a UV/VIS spectrophotometer
  • biological safety hood
  • a Panasonic micro-video system
