Credit-bearing Professional Development for Educators

All graduate-level Education courses fulfill ACT 48 continuing education credit. Graduate courses are offered online in seven-week accelerated terms throughout the year. Select in-person course options are available in the summer.

Educators can complete credit-bearing graduate courses as visiting students or by enrolling in a graduate-level certificate or degree program.

Professional Development and Visiting Students

Non-degree seeking students may register for any of the graduate education courses below using our Visiting Student/Professional Development Course Request.

Registration will remain open until the day before each class begins. To add or drop a course after that date, please complete the change of registration form and submit it to Textbook information is available through the college store’s website.

This course will explore the communication and reading literacy skills that K-12 students need in understanding science education and scientific literature. The course will provide students with opportunities to choose, apply, and evaluate writing, reading, and communication skills with their students by selecting appropriate materials and exercises that reflect the needs of a diverse population of students. The components of a balanced literacy curriculum—phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension—will be addressed as well as strategies to improve these skills in students weak in one or more of the components. Literacy skills that are unique to science will be explored, including learning to communicate in the language of science (charts, tables, data, maps, etc.).
