Private Lessons

Lessons taught through private instruction at the Community Music Institute (CMI) at Lebanon Valley College carry a long tradition of quality. Established more than 40 years ago by Ruth Engle Bender, a highly respected piano teacher and member of the College faculty, the institute began by offering piano instruction to school-age children. Over time, the institute’s services expanded. Today, private lessons are offered in piano, voice, violin, viola, cello, bass (acoustic and electric), clarinet, flute, saxophone, bassoon, oboe, French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba, euphonium, guitar, and percussion. Instruction for other instruments is available on request.

Additionally, a variety of ensembles are offered, and a full curriculum of Musikgarten classes are held for students from newborn to seven years old.

Although some of the students in the Community Music Institute’s programs are college bound and are preparing for careers in music, most are studying for personal enjoyment and the desire to enrich their lives with music. All age and ability levels are welcome, from the very young violinist to the retiree who always wanted to play an instrument or sing. The student and the student’s goals are always in mind as they reach for excellence continues.
