Nursing students

Mission

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program builds on a foundation of humanities, natural sciences, and social sciences to deliver a professional nursing program that educates graduates who engage in clinical judgment, incorporate cultural awareness, communicate effectively, and work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to provide safe, quality, compassionate patient care. The baccalaureate nurse is also educated to be a leader in nursing to improve patient care through evidence-based practice, using quality improvement tools and data, leading collaboration with other healthcare providers, and promoting social justice. Nursing graduates are empowered to build on their education through lifelong learning to grow in their pursuit of excellence as a professional nurse.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Provide safe, quality, compassionate, evidence-based, and patient-centered nursing care to diverse patients and populations across the lifespan various healthcare settings.
  2. Engage in clinical judgment when making patient-centered care and other nursing decisions.
  3. Analyze quality improvement processes and outcome measures to improve patient outcomes.
  4. Engage in collaborative relationships using therapeutic and professional communication techniques with all healthcare team members and the patient.
  5. Employ information management systems and patient care technologies to communicate, gather evidence, mitigate error, and support clinical judgment.
  6. Use leadership, legal, and ethical principles to guide professional practice as a Registered Nurse.
  7. Apply knowledge of healthcare systems to ensure quality nursing care in a safe environment.
