Building Confidence and Relationships: LVC Alum Accepts Position at Forrester

Growth is not found in comfort but discomfort. Dakota Keefer ’18 was fortunate to have had several role models throughout his educational career who pushed him outside his comfort zone and onto the path of success. 

Keefer discovered his interest in economics during high school through a respected teacher who introduced him to the possible career paths the degree could offer. It was from there that Keefer was directed to LVC through friends. 

“I had a couple of friends on the men’s lacrosse team who convinced me to come for a campus visit when I was making my college decision,” said Keefer. “After meeting Coach Haus and the team, I knew LVC was the perfect place to get a great education and continue my athletic career.”

During his time on campus, Keefer formed a close relationship with Dr. Treva Clark, chair and associate professor of accounting, business, and economics, and Dr. Will Delavan, associate professor of economics. Through these connections, Keefer formed valuable skills such as interviewing, interacting with clients, and calling prospects. 

“Dr. Clark and Dr. Delavan are incredible,” said Keefer. “Their classes were impactful, and they truly care about each of their students’ success. Dr. Clark helped me get out of my comfort zone with activities such as ‘mock prospecting calls’ that I use daily in my current role.” 

With the help of these newfound skills, Keefer recently started as a customer success manager at Forrester Research, one of the world’s largest market research and consulting firms. Keefer credits his LVC classes with helping him complete a rigorous five-step interview process that included delivering a 45-minute presentation at Forrester.

“Dr. Clark and all the Business Department professors do a phenomenal job of preparing their students for future interviews,” he said. “They also helped me secure an internship with Listrak, a digital marketing firm, that provided valuable real-world experience.”

Keefer describes his position as a client-facing role supporting IBM. 

“My primary responsibility is ensuring that IBM’s leaders and executives get the highest value from their partnership with Forrester,” said Keefer, who works with clients around the world. “This includes organizing consulting projects, connecting clients with our analysts, recommending top new research, and working with our sales team to generate new business.”

While Keefer is still new to the Forrester team, he looks forward to a long tenure building new relationships with his coworkers and clients.
