A Contemplation of Scenery Exhibit to Open at the Suzanne H. Arnold Art Gallery

A Contemplation of Scenery: The Vesell Family Collection

A Contemplation of Scenery: The Vesell Family Collection will run from Sept. 3–Dec. 5, 2021 at the Suzanne H. Arnold Art Gallery of Lebanon Valley College. This exhibit features works from All That Is Glorious Around Us: The Vesell Family Collection, 45 predominantly American landscape paintings from the nineteenth century recently donated by Hilary Peery Vesell in memory of her father, Dr. Elliot Vesell. Highlights of the collection include work by Henry Ary, Susie Barstow, John William Casilear, Maria Holley, and George Henry Smillie, among numerous others of the Hudson River School canon. Exploring such topics as symbolic imagery, tourism, industry, and environmental issues, the exhibit provides a lens through which to view these paintings anew.
