At LVC, we measure our success by what our students become. In addition to building a foundation in the principles of mathematics, you’ll learn how to think creatively, solve complex problems, and analyze your findings for a wider audience.  

Whether you’re in an introductory or advanced course, you can expect to be at the chalkboard or a computer console presenting your work. You’ll develop the communication skills you need to succeed in the workplace, as you practice presenting solutions to many public audiences. 

Our bachelor’s degree in mathematics is self-contained and flexible. Depending on your interests and career goals, combine your math major with other areas of study, from the hard sciences to Math Education

Work Side-By-Side with Practicing Mathematicians

Thanks to small class sizes, dedicated faculty, and working research groups, you’ll solve complex problems side-by-side with practicing mathematicians daily. With support from faculty advisors, you can also conduct independent research on areas like symmetry and quantum entanglement. 

Gain additional hands-on experience in mathematics-related careers through our for-credit internship program. Find out what it means to be a biostatistician, actuary, or computer programmer. You’ll leave with a clear set of career goals and real-world experience on your resumé.

Conduct In-Depth Research Funded by the National Science Foundation

You’ll have competitive opportunities to join the faculty experts in our Mathematical Physics Research Group, whose research is regularly funded by the National Science Foundation. 

This interdisciplinary group pioneers quantum information science by bringing mathematics, physics, and computer & data science students together with faculty for research projects that provide an incredible foundation for graduate study.

Demonstrate the results of your new research by presenting at regional and national conferences and publishing papers in prestigious academic journals.

As a graduate of our mathematics program, we know you’ll succeed because of your outstanding technical, critical thinking, and communications skills. 

Your abilities to conquer technical material, analyze and solve complex problems, and communicate important results to a wide variety of audiences will impress colleagues and employers alike.

Recent LVC graduates work as security engineers, data scientists, programmers, analysts, and researchers for organizations like Elsevier, The Hartford, Mercer, Aetna, and Hershey Medical. 

Others have pursued advanced degrees in mathematics, physics, and actuarial science at The University of Colorado at Boulder, the University of Pittsburgh, Lehigh University, and elsewhere.
