Quality Music Instruction

We offer private lessons in violin, viola, cello, bass, flute, clarinet, saxophone, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, cornet, French horn, trombone, tuba, piano, percussion, guitar, and voice. Our students range from beginners to advanced learners.

Although some of our students are college-bound and preparing for careers in music, most are studying for personal enjoyment and the desire to enrich their lives with music. All ages and abilities are welcome, from the very young violinist to the retiree who always wanted to play an instrument or sing. The student and the student’s goals are always kept in mind as the reach for excellence continues.

Part of the private lesson program is the opportunity to perform in the two annual recitals. Our students are encouraged to perform in these performances. We also have one performance group, a chamber ensemble.

Registration & Tuition

Community Music Institute classes and lessons are offered on a non-credit basis. Classes are held at the College’s Bertha Brossman Blair Music Center. Arrangements for lessons must be made with the director, and registration can be completed when lessons commence.

Tuition for private instruction is $24 per half-hour lesson. The fee for 14 half-hour lessons would then be $336. Arrangements can be made for lessons of longer duration and their costs will be calculated at $36 per 45-minute lesson and $48 per hour lesson.

The recommended number of lessons per semester are as follows:

  • Fall (September-December): 14 lessons
  • Spring (January-April): 14 lessons
  • Summer 1 (May & June): 7 lessons
  • Summer 2 (July & August): 7 lessons

We do offer rolling enrollment throughout the year, so the number of lessons per semester will be adjusted based on when a student registers for lessons.

Family Tuition Plan

If two or more students from one family are enrolled for the entire semester, there is a 10% discount for the second and each additional family member. The students must be enrolled during the same semester to qualify for this plan. This also applies to siblings or family members who are registered in other classes (i.e. Musikgarten, Ensemble) offered by the Community Music Institute.
