New Student Orientation (August 25-28, 2022)

Orientation officially begins on Thursday, August 25, for first-year residential and commuter students and new transfer students. Residential students will move into their residence halls on Thursday, August 25.

Students are encouraged to attend all Orientation events. Please note events that are marked with a (REQUIRED) are required of all new first-year students.

Attendance and check-in for required orientation events will take place on the LVC Loyalty Rewards App. You can download it through Google Play or the Apple Store.

Although all Orientation activities are open to every new student, the following keys note group-specific events:

  • (C) events required for commuting students
  • (T) events required for transfer students

Thursday, Aug. 25

7 A.M. – 12 P.M. | MORNING ARRIVAL CHECK-IN (Required)
RED LOT A, NORTH CAMPUS | Students and families arrive to campus and check in during their designated time slot. Residence Hall keys, student ID cards, First-Year Mentor information, orientation t-shirt coupon, and meal tickets will be distributed here.

CHAPEL 101, FREDERIC K. MILLER CHAPEL | All commuters and transfers will have an opportunity to meet with upper-class commuting students and various College administrators. Required of all new transfer students.

11 A.M. –1 P.M. | WATER CEREMONY
PEACE GARDEN | Families are invited to stop by anytime during one of the four water ceremonies. You can take part in this unique and meaningful LVC tradition of connecting home and campus by bringing your water from home to symbolize the transition to your new “home”.

11:30 A.M. – 1:15 P.M. | LUNCH FOR NEW STUDENTS AND FAMILIES
SOCIAL QUAD (RAIN LOCATION: LEHR AND PHILLIPS DINING HALL, ALLAN W. MUND COLLEGE CENTER) | Class of 2026 and their families can stop over anytime to enjoy some lunch.

12:45 P.M. | ANNUAL CHILDREN OF ALUMNI PHOTOS (LEGACIES)
SOCIAL QUAD STAIRS, FREDERIC K. MILLER CHAPEL | All children of parents or grandparents who attended LVC are invited to participate in this annual tradition. We will take a group photo of all new legacies and photos with any of their family members who attended LVC.

1:30 P.M. | CLASS PHOTO (Required)
ACADEMIC QUAD | The Class of 2026 will gather for their first LVC class photo.

1:45 P.M. | PRE-CONVOCATION LINEUP (Required)
ACADEMIC QUAD | Students are encouraged to leave their backpacks or other possessions in their rooms or with family members for the ceremony.

1:45 P.M. – 2:45 P.M. | MAKING THE TRANSITION: A SESSION FOR PARENTS AND FAMILIES

2–2:45 P.M. | OPENING CONVOCATION (Required)
MILLER CHAPEL | The tradition of the Opening Convocation marks the formal opening of the academic year.  All new students are led through a receiving line of Lebanon Valley College faculty, administration, and trustees in full academic regalia. There is limited seating for families.

2:30–4:30 P.M. | PARENT LETTER & WRAP-UP
LIVING ROOM, ALLAN W. MUND COLLEGE CENTER | Before departing campus, parents and families are invited to write a letter to be distributed to their student at a later point in the semester. Care packages will also be for sale, $20 (cash, check, or Venmo) for a package of snacks delivered to students within the first two weeks of the semester.

2:45–3:15 P.M. | SETTLING IN & GOODBYES
VARIOUS LOCATIONS | Parents and families bid farewell to their students.

3:15–5 P.M. | FIRST-YEAR MENTOR MEETINGS (Required)
