The annual Symposium on Inclusive Excellence encourages students and staff to learn, grow, and commit as a campus to comprehensive and continuing engagement with our diverse community. An entire day is reserved for a featured keynote speaker and educational sessions that inspire open dialogue.
The Committee for Inclusive and Intercultural Learning (IIL) is excited to announce that the theme of the 2022 Symposium on Inclusive Excellence will be "Journey Together". The symposium will be held as a combination in-person and online event. Our keynote speaker will be Saul Flores, a philanthropist, photojournalist, and speaker who is nationally recognized for his social impact projects.
Faculty, staff, and students have dedicated their time to provide the LVC Community with a variety of educational and interactive afternoon sessions to further our commitment to Inclusive Excellence. Don't miss out, be a part of it all!
Symposium Schedule
10–11:30 a.m. | Community Collaboration Recognition & Keynote Convocation
11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. | Lunch Break (Note: due to social distancing concerns, only those with meal plans will be permitted to eat in the Lehr and Phillips Dining Hall in Mund.)
1–2 p.m. | Educational Session Block 1*
2:15–3:15 p.m. | Educational Session Block 2*
Keynote speaker: Saul Flores
Saul Flores walked 5,328 miles through ten countries to document how grueling and dangerous the journey of immigrants to the United States can be and to raise money for an elementary school in Atencingo, Mexico. The story of his journey, accompanied by a series of photographs, capture the essence of the people, communities, and cultures he encountered along the way.
I am grateful to be a member of an LVC community willing to acknowledge and embrace the multicultural nature of our campus. Students, staff, and faculty all rooted in different cultural backgrounds came together to show a commitment to honoring diversity and promoting equality. Seeing everyone at the Keynote, along with the 500+ others attending online, I am hopeful for the future of LVC as an educational community.
