Lebanon Valley is a private, liberal arts college. Its mission arises directly from its historical traditions and a relationship with the United Methodist Church.
The College's aim is to enable our students to become people of broad vision, capable of making informed decisions, and prepared for a life of service to others. To that end, we seek to provide an education that helps students acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values necessary to live and work in a changing, diverse, and fragile world.
Through both curricular and co-curricular activities, we endeavor to acquaint our students with humanity's most significant ideas and accomplishments, to develop their abilities to think logically and communicate clearly, to give them practice in precise analysis and effective performance, and to enhance their sensitivity to and appreciation of differences among human beings.
Lebanon Valley College aspires to pursue this mission within a community in which caring and concern for others is a core value. We value strong and nurturing faculty interacting closely with students; encourage individual student development; and affirm the interrelatedness of liberal learning and the ideal of vocation. We regard the cultivation of wisdom that is the capacity of judging rightly in matters of life and conduct, and a lifelong love of learning as the ultimate reward of the educational experience.
Lebanon Valley College is located on more than 340 beautiful rural acres in the town of Annville, Pennsylvania, just eight miles east of Hershey. Twenty-seven residence halls house students in traditional dormitories, suites, and apartment-style facilities. Our library contains more than 200,000 physical items and our science facilities are state-of-the-art.
We give awards based on high school academic work-not on SAT scores. If you rank among the top 30 percent of your high school class, you will qualify for an academic scholarship that covers up to half the cost of tuition.
Founded in 1866, today the College has 1,600 full-time undergraduate students, 150 part-time undergraduates, 200 graduate students, and 103 full-time faculty. We feel more like a large welcoming family than an impersonal institution.

Lebanon Valley College and the United Methodist Church
The College was founded in 1866 through a resolution of the Church of the United Brethren in Christ. The United Methodist Church has long incorporated the religious and the liberal arts into their tradition of higher education in the United States. The United Methodist Church is committed to value-centered inquiry, critical thinking, and a liberal arts curriculum. United Methodist-related colleges respect and support the religious practices of its members and are concerned with global issues.
The value Lebanon Valley College places on its historic relationship and current affiliation with the United Methodist Church is evident in many current College traditions and events. This historic relationship is also clearly noted in the College’s mission states, which notes that LVC’s mission “arises directly from its historical traditions and a relationship with the United Methodist Church.”
