This ambitious media and visual arts project, funded by the Pleet Initiative for undergraduate research, aims to complete one large-scale project in three different communities. The three chosen communities include the LVC campus, the local Annville Township, and the urban environment of Harrisburg or Philadelphia. Dr. Grant Taylor, as Project Director, has formed a “creative collaborative group” (or CCG) with six committed art, film, and design students (see below). Together the group will move through a process of experimentation, conception, and production of three public art projects that are both “sustainable” and “site specific”. The creative group will also engage in the exploration and analysis of current environmental issues facing each community. This research will inform and shape each project and the written scholarship that follows. Because the projects are being driven by sustainable practices, the group will produce three temporary structures that are assembled and disassembled without any substantial impact on the natural environment. Each project will employ diverse media, from reusable natural material to new media technologies, such as video projection and multi-media installation. To facilitate the potential for wider global connections and information exchange, the group has formed a social network on sustainability and the arts.
