The Walter Society
The Walter Society, established in 2004 and named for Patricia Lutz Walter '57 and the late Judge John Walter '53, recognizes our most loyal donors for their consistent dedication to supporting educational excellence at The Valley. This society is an honorary society reserved for those alumni, parents, and friends of Lebanon Valley College who contribute five or more consecutive years to the College, or for recent graduates, those who have contributed to LVC every year since their graduation.
Society members receive the following benefits:
- Recognition in the Honor Roll of Donors (published in the annual President's Report)
- A complimentary Walter Society memento
Patricia Lutz Walter '57 and the late Judge John Walter '53
The Walter Society is named for Patricia Lutz Walter '57 and the late Judge John Walter '53, an alumni couple whose support of the Valley is exemplary and who have embodied the spirit that is LVC.
From the time they entered the campus in the 1950s, the former Mr. LVC and Miss Quittie had a passion for The Valley. John, a chemistry major, and Pat, a music education major, first saw each other at a basketball game in Lynch Gymnasium during Pat's freshman year. Two years later at a dance, John asked for Pat's hand in marriage on the very same spot.
Both remained active in alumni circles. John was president of the Alumni Council, a winner of the Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1990, and a former member of the Board of Trustees. Pat continued her involvement with LVC as an adjunct professor in the Music Department and currently remains an active alumna by attending many special events at LVC. Two of their four children are also alumni of The Valley–Heather Buffington '85 and Heidi Lockridge '91.
Additionally, Pat and John have supported LVC Athletics. From the time Pat served as captain of the cheerleading squad and John as manager of the men's basketball team, the Walters' passion for LVC sports never waned. John served as the public address announcer for basketball in the '90s, and in 1996 he was awarded the Hot Dog Frank Athletic Service Award. The scoreboard that hangs over center court in the LVC gymnasium is a result of the Walters' generosity.
Through their years of life together, John and Pat always remained loyal friends of Lebanon Valley College. LVC is proud to count them as alumni, and proud as well to dedicate The Walter Society in their names.
