Tyler Frantz ’07: To live more self-sustainably, I recently put in a vegetable garden and I’m also growing grapes and blueberries in my yard. The vegetables and fruit will complement the venison and wild turkey meat I froze from this past fall. Additionally, I compost all my leaf and yard trimmings.
Courtney Grimm ’09: As a teacher, I’ve used cardboard boxes to tape pictures on for the students to match or sort or work on numbers and shapes. Last year, for Earth Day, my students and I made a 5 foot long rainbow with recyclables that we saved. We also had a fashion show with recyclables and the kids got to make clothes and model them to their parents.
Dan Rau ’03: We were the first laundromat (D & B Laundromat in Palmyra) in Central Pennsylvania to install a solar thermal system that heats our water using the power of the sun. This is a cost-saving measure that is simple, uses a free renewable resource, and also helps to minimize the use of natural gas.
