The Valley Fund: Seizing Opportunities

Many LVC students depend on the generosity of alumni, parents, and friends to place an LVC education in reach. Tim Carroll ’15, a junior chemistry major from Birdsboro, Pa., received generous scholarships, funded in part through The Valley Fund, which helped bring him to the College.

As Carroll explained, “being one of five siblings going off to college, I’m pretty much responsible financially for tuition. Without the scholarship support, I wouldn’t be able to afford LVC.”

Tim has enthusiastically seized opportunities to conduct research, study abroad in New Zealand, and compete as a member of the men’s swimming team. He has worked closely with Dr. Marc Harris, associate professor of chemistry, focusing summer and semester research on host-guest systems of inorganic molecules.

“Studying abroad helped me realize I want to get out and see more places,” Carroll said.  Following graduate school, he is considering a career in chemical sales that will enable him to combine his two passions.

Students pursue a customized education and meaningful experiences at the Valley as they prepare for the future. The Valley Fund provides the sustaining dollars to run and operate the College’s traditional base of liberal arts and rigorous pre-professional programs and ensure students and faculty have the programs and support they need to succeed.

GOAL: $1 million

Your gift to the Valley Fund supports services and opportunities that every student depend on daily - generous scholarships, inspiring faculty, and enriching educational resources and programs.

The Valley Fund exceeded its $900,000 goal in 2012-2013. Gifts in the 2013-2014 year will strengthen excellent teaching and learning and provide scholarship aid to promising students.
