On behalf of the student body and as President of Student Government, I welcome you, our incoming class, to our Lebanon Valley College family!
High school is now coming to an end (perhaps for some of you, not soon enough!). As you transition into the next stage of your lives, I encourage you to cherish each and every one of the wonderful opportunities you will experience. LVC fosters self-discovery, and helps to develop students into well-rounded, intelligent individuals who can compete in our modern, globalized world. Quite likely, most of you are thinking, "Yeah, sure, the 'real world' - I still have four years (if not more) of college left!" I don't blame you; I thought the same thing upon entering college. Consider this: you're graduating high school. At least 12 years of school are already finished. Like life up until now has flown by, the next 4 years of college will be over after what seemed like the blink of an eye. Allow yourself to experience everything possible! There's always something that you haven't experienced. Thankfully, LVC offers a wide-variety of extra curricular activities, including: sports teams, clubs, Greek Life, music ensembles, and many leadership opportunities, including Student Government.
Student Government is an organization that consists of 34 members who provide structure and control for clubs and organizations on campus. Its members represent the student body and voice LVC-wide concerns to help the college. If you feel that you would like to take part in this wonderful opportunity, I encourage you to run for one of the eight representative positions for the Class of 2013. I strongly believe that you will enjoy your time on Student Government, find it worth your while, and learn many new and useful skills that will help you develop into extraordinary men and women. You will find out more information about Student Government, as well as all other clubs and organizations at the Activities Fair on Wednesday, September 2nd during dinner.
Throughout the transition from high school to college, you are bound to experience a plethora of emotions: excitement from the serotonin-spike of tackling a new phase of life, nervousness from potentially relocating to a new area and meeting droves of strangers, bliss in being entirely independent, sadness in leaving your family and faithful friends, and driven enthusiasm as you begin to pioneer the most amazing years of your life.
Please, come to college with a vastly open mind, don't be scared of meeting new and true friends, tackle unfamiliarity, explore uncharted areas of potential personal growth, but most importantly, appreciate everything. Your four-year undergraduate career will undoubtedly fly by. It's never fun to look back and say, "I wish I had done that." Live up your summer and get psyched for LVC. I look forward to meeting all of you in the fall. Welcome to the family!
Sincerely,
Mark Fersch '10,
Student Government President
