Diversity is an important aspect of the college experience. For many of you, this will be the first time you will attend classes and live with individuals from various ethnic, religious, political, and social backgrounds. Undoubtedly, these experiences will provide life-long learning and friendships as well as prepare you to live, interact and work in an increasingly diverse world. Thus, I encourage you to:
Learn about the various social, educational, and leadership programs sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs including: Cultural Heritage Days, the Intercultural Dining Outs, the Social Justice Institute, the MLK Jr. Celebration, and the Mosaic Talent Show.
Explore and consider joining one of the many student organizations which support diversity such as the Voices of Spirit gospel choir, Steppers and Shakers, Freedom Rings, Asian Society in Action, the F-Word, and the Umoja Drum Circle just to name a few.
Grow by expanding your mind while challenging yourself to make a positive difference. Become a Multicultural Intern or Mentor, live in the Unity House, or volunteer as a member of the Multicultural Advisory Committee or the Bias Response Team.
Feel free to contact the Office of Multicultural Affairs in person (located in the Mund College Center), by phone 867-6165, or visit our Multicultural Affairs web site. Best of luck as you start off your year!
