Three teams engaged the theme of death in music. The first team described the musical heritage and contemporary practice of the New Orleans Jazz Funeral, exploring its African roots and giving a good sense of the current practice. Another team explored the variety of musical influences in Death Music in American culture. The last team compiled an impressive list of songs that feature some aspect of death. The list is broken into several categories highlighting themes that recur in popular music.
