Art

For this class, we have taken art in its broadest sense. As such this section includes works of two types. First are web contributions produced by teams of students enrolled in the class. Second is a gallery of art submitted to an open Call for Art distributed by Dr. Sayers in the Spring of 2011.
The web contributions in this semester focused on different modes of entertainment. The first team wrote about death in musicals, drawing comparisons between different musicals and the conceptions of death operative therein. Another team wrote about zombies as a cultural expression of our fear of death. This web contribution includes a discussion of several of the classic movies in the zombie genre. Two groups chose to focus on the expressions of death in movies. One group compared the value and use of death in two action movies. The other group complied a list of death scenes, including links to video clips, from the past two decades.
The art gallery featured here was compiled from art submissions solicited from the entire Lebanon Valley College community. In the process of selecting art, the class decided that the number of photographs submitted merited a separate gallery, particularly as many do not have intrinsic artistic value, but capture a thing or place very powerful. Thus you will find below two galleries. One for the Art submissions and another for the photographs.
