Charge to the Presidential Search Committee of Lebanon Valley College (June 13, 2011)
The Board of Trustees of Lebanon Valley College has charged the Presidential Search Committee with finding and recommending to it the individual who, in its judgment, is best qualified to become LVC’s eighteenth (18th) president.
The candidate must be highly qualified to lead LVC in the coming years. The Board of Trustees retains the final right to select and appoint the next president.
The fourteen (14) members of the Committee are drawn from various constituencies, including trustees, faculty, administration and students. However, each individual member of the Committee is charged with representing LVC as a whole and not the constituency of which he or she is a part.
The Committee is responsible for all aspects of the search, including the development of a profile of LVC and the desired attributes of the next president. Other tasks include administering the search process, recruiting and screening candidates, and making a final recommendation to the Board.
The Committee will give members of each LVC constituency the opportunity to share views on qualities to seek in candidates prior to finalizing search criteria.
The Committee will welcome the nomination of specific individuals for consideration. A website dedicated to the search, available for public viewing, has been established and will be maintained. It can be found at www.lvc.edu.
Each member of the Committee must commit to keep completely confidential the identity of persons applying for the position of president. Each member of the Committee must also commit to maintain in confidence the specific deliberations of the Committee and the details pertaining to its recommendations. Subject to confidentiality obligations, the chair of the Search Committee will report to the Board and other members of the LVC community about progress of the search. Only the chair of the Committee and the chair of the Board itself will comment outside Committee meetings on any aspect of the search.
