Presidential Search News & Updates

February 10, 2012

LVC Community Colleagues --

Thank you for the opportunity to speak at the faculty business meeting last week. As I shared in that session, the Trustees agreed to clarify the Presidential Priorities and Attributes to be applied when soliciting Presidential Candidates. You will find the current Presidential Priorities and Attributes in the College Profile on LVC’s website under ‘Presidential Search’.

The individual Trustees have reviewed the Priorities and Attributes. Soon, the Search Committee will revise the Presidential Priorities and Attributes priority listing to incorporate this feedback. This revision will be forwarded to the Trustees who will convene in a conference call to confirm the Priorities and Attributes priority listing. The list will be shared with the LVC Community when it is confirmed, most likely, before the end of March.

In the meantime, the Search Committee is authorized to reconvene and actively pursue highly qualified presidential candidates. A targeted search will be undertaken with the assistance of Dr. Jamie Ferrare, Principal of AGB Search. As we discussed, nominations from LVC Community Members are encouraged and should be sent directly to Dr. Ferrare at jpf@agbsearch.org.

In a targeted search, the consultant will recruit candidates who appear to be a match with the Priorities and Attributes approved by Board. After each candidate’s information is shared with the Search Committee, the Committee then determines the semi-finalist interview pool.

The Search Committee Chair & Board Chair will complete in-depth reference checks on semi-finalists. Their findings will be reported to the Committee prior to preliminary interviews which will be held via Skype. When one or two highly qualified final candidates are identified, they will be invited to LVC for a campus visit.

A successful targeted search can be completed in approximately three months. However, President MacDonald has graciously agreed to extend his contract, if necessary, until a new president is found and a mutually agreed transition time elapses. Therefore, it will be possible to extend the timeframe until the most highly qualified candidates are recruited.

Thank you all for your dedication to LVC’s future. I am confident that our clear focus on the Presidential Priorities and Attributes will assure the success of LVC’s continuing Presidential Search.

Best Regards,

Lynn G. Phillips '68, Chair
Lebanon Valley Trustees
