Students are encouraged to attend all orientation events. Please note events that are required of all new students.
Although all Orientation activities are open to every new student, the following keys will note group-specific events:

“C” events specifically for commuting students
“T” events specifically for transfer students



Thursday, August 27: Orientation Begins

Residence Halls Open for New Students
Residence hall keys, student ID cards, and peer mentor information will be distributed to students outside of their residence hall. Students will also receive a coupon for their Orientation T-shirt which will be available in the Mund College Center.

All students are invited to visit the tables located inside the main concourse of the Mund College Center for vehicle registration, local banking information, IT support, Comcast cable information and to pick up their complimentary Orientation t-shirt.

ID Photos

Students who have not had a photo taken for their ID card should go to the Mund College Center. Students must have an ID card to gain access to their assigned residence hall, the Vernon and Doris Bishop Library, Arnold Sports Center, and dining facilities.

Commuting Students Check-In (C)

All new commuting students must report to the Mund College Center for vehicle registration, peer mentor information, an Orientation T-shirt, and their ID card. Commuting students are invited to be our guests at meals through Sunday’s dinner.

All new commuters will meet with peer mentors and College administrators before going to lunch on the Social Quad.

Welcome and informational meeting for new students and their families.

Water Ceremony
Peace Garden
All are invited to participate in a traditional water ceremony. Please bring a small amount of water representative of home, pour it in one of four urns that have been placed in the Peace Garden, and sign the registry. Once collected, all water will be poured into the pond as a symbol of the support of the extended community.

Luncheon for All Students and Families

All new students and families are invited to join members of the College community at an outdoor barbecue luncheon on the Social Quad. Music will be provided by the Jay Umble jazz trio.

Pre-Convocation Instructions

All new students will receive information related to the Opening Convocation. This program is required of all new students. Students are encouraged to leave their backpacks or other possessions in their rooms or with family members for the ceremony.

Opening Convocation

The tradition of the Opening Convocation marks the formal opening of the academic year. Students are led through a receiving line of Lebanon Valley College’s faculty, administration, and trustees in full academic regalia. This program is required of all new students. Parents and family members are invited to attend the ceremony.

2:30–3 p.m.
Settling In and Goodbyes

Parents and families bid farewell to their students. This time may also be used to visit the College Store. Don’t forget that Oktoberfest/Homecoming and Family Weekend is Oct. 10–11!

Welcome to Students and Peer Mentor Introductions

Students will be welcomed by Gregory Krikorian, vice president of student affairs and dean of students; and Paige Diller '16, student government president, before meeting their peer mentors.

Academic Orientations
All students will meet with their department faculty for an academic overview related to their major field of study and make scheduled advising appointments. Held in various locations: Check your email and poster listings in residence halls and academic buildings, or with your peer mentor and/or resident assistant. All students are required to attend. 

3–4 p.m.
FYE, FYS, and ENG 111 Meetings

All students will meet with their classmates and instructor of their FYE,  FYS, or ENG 111 section.

Get Out of Your Bubble

Get Out of Your Bubble is a program that inspires students to see college for the great adventure that it can be. The show presents a slice of the changing and diverse world and demonstrates how taking advantage of all of the resources offered at LVC will make them more knowledgeable, diverse and marketable in a far more competitive world. All students are required to attend.

Join the Student Programing Board as they kick off their entertainment line-up with performer Alex Clark. Clark combines training from the theatre companies, Cirque Du Soleil, and a hippie-run arts high school, to create a show that is entertaining on every level. Jaw-dropping tricks, quick-witted comedy, and rocking harmonica jams included. It’s unlike anything you’ve ever seen!

All new students are required to attend this meeting where they will complete survey information.

Orientation Service Projects

All new students will meet with their peer mentor groups and engage in service projects designed by students leaders of LVC service organizations. Several non-profit organizations will benefit in the process.

5 –6 p.m
Picnic with the President
Kreiderheim
Join Dr. Lewis E. Thayne, LVC president, as he hosts a picnic for all new students at his home. Enjoy food, activities, and a chance to be personally welcomed by the President at this signature event. Students will gather in the Arnold Sports Center at 4:50 p.m. and will walk as a group to the location.

7–8:30 p.m.
Welcome Back Social
Social Quad
All students are invited to this social with live music from our own student band Sheridan Ave. Be sure to meet members of student government and find out more about how you can get involved at LVC!
