Although all Orientation activities are open to every new student, the following keys will note group-specific events:

Residence hall keys, student ID cards, and peer mentor information will be distributed to students outside of their residence hall.

All students are invited to visit the tables located inside the main concourse of the Mund College Center for vehicle registration, local banking information, IT support, Comcast cable information and to pick up their complimentary Orientation t-shirt.

ID Photos

Students who have not had a photo taken for their ID card should go to the Mund College Center. Students must have an ID card to gain access to their assigned residence hall, the Vernon and Doris Bishop Library, Arnold Sports Center, and dining facilities.

Annual Children of Alumni Photos (Legacies)

All children of parents or grandparents who attended LVC are invited to participate in this annual tradition. We will take a group photo of all new legacies and photos with any of their family members who attended LVC.

Commuting Students Check-In (C)

All new commuting students must report to the Mund College Center for vehicle registration, peer mentor information, and their ID card. Commuting students are invited to be our guests at meals through Sunday’s dinner.

All new commuters will meet with peer mentors and College administrators before going to lunch on the Social Quad.

Welcome and informational meeting for new students and their families.

Water Ceremony
Peace Garden
All are invited to participate in a traditional water ceremony. Please bring a small amount of water representative of home, pour it in one of four urns that have been placed in the Peace Garden, and sign the registry. Once collected, all water will be poured into the pond as a symbol of the support of the extended community.

Luncheon for All Students and Families

All new students and families are invited to join members of the faculty and staff at an outdoor barbecue luncheon on the Social Quad. Music will be provided by the Jay Umble jazz trio.

All new students will receive information related to the Opening Convocation. This program is required of all new students.

Opening Convocation

The tradition of the Opening Convocation marks the formal opening of the academic year. Students are led through a receiving line of Lebanon Valley College’s faculty, administration, and trustees in full academic regalia. This program is required of all new students. Parents and family members are invited to attend the ceremony.

Settling In and Goodbyes

Parents and families bid farewell to their students. This time may also be used to visit the College Store. Don’t forget that Oktoberfest/Homecoming and Family Weekend is Oct. 10–11!

Students will be welcomed by Gregory Krikorian, vice president of student affairs and dean of students; and Sam Calabria’15, student government president, before meeting their peer mentors.

Performed by Collegiate Empowerment, “Maximize Your Buzz” is a nationally recognized educational program dedicated to serving and motivating college students with an interactive, inspiring, and informative seminar about changing behaviors by shifting perspectives on alcohol. Jay Smooth is founder and host of New York City's longest running hip-hop radio program, WBAI's "The Underground Railroad." He is also the mastermind behind the hip hop video blog "The Ill Doctrine," where he serves up contemporary observation on topics of race, politics, music, and pop culture. Smooth entertains, challenges, and enlightens with his perspective on music, politics, and culture, encouraging audiences to do their own critical thinking about the world, engage in conversations about cultural issues, and find some common ground. All students are required to attend.

At LVC, we encourage our entire community to take responsibility for, become aware of, and work to prevent sexual misconduct. We help foster this environment by assuring that we have an informed student body. This program, facilitated by LVC administrators, is required for all new students.

All new students will meet with their peer mentor groups and engage in service projects designed by students leaders of LVC service organizations. Several non-profit organizations will benefit in the process.

Join Dr. Lewis E. Thayne, LVC president, as he hosts a picnic for all new students at his home. Enjoy food, activities, and a chance to be personally welcomed by the President at this signature event. Students will gather in the Arnold Sports Center at 4:45 p.m. and will walk as a group to the location.

All students are invited to this social with live music from our own Sheridan Ave., fun, and friends. Be sure to meet members of student government and the student programming board and find out more about how you can get involved at LVC!
