LVC Special Interest Houses Provide Campus Services
07.26.12 |
Each year, a number of campus residence houses are designated for special interest groups of students that are interested in giving back to campus through service. This year, five special interest houses will provide a variety of services that benefits other LVC students.

Centre Hall, a large two story house adjacent to the Peace Garden, is home to tutoring and writing center volunteers. The 14 residents promise to service 15 unpaid hours in either the writing or tutoring center each semester. These residents must also maintain at least a 3.0 GPA and commit to focusing on academic achievement and service.

Friendship Hall, at the corner of College Ave. and Maple St., is home to 16 students who dedicate a year of volunteerism creating diversity and social justice programming for the campus. The students are devoted to the College’s mission to become people of broad vision, living and working together under the guidance of the Office of Multicultural Affairs.

The Women’s Services and Gender Resource Center returns to 118 College Ave. again this year, with five student volunteers who aid the Center in its mission and programming efforts, in addition to conducting open hours 15 hours per week. Last year, the WSGRC presented an AIDS candlelight vigil, sponsored a film series, hosted public discussions, and held regular book club meetings.

The six residents of Sheridan East and eight residents of Sheridan West, next door to Shroyer Health Center, propose and carry out their own programming initiatives on campus and in the surrounding community. Past examples have included houses focusing on the Invisible Children Fund and It Gets Better.
