Old Annville Day is Town’s Biggest Summer Attraction
06.08.12 |
Main Street in Annville closes from Route 934 to Cherry Street Saturday, June 9, for Historic Old Annville Day, the town’s biggest summer attraction. Historic Old Annville Day is a community celebration with roots in the early 20th century, when the entire town would pack picnic lunches, pile into the trolley and spend a festive "Annville Day" at the park in Hershey. Revived in 1989 by The Friends of Old Annville as a street fair, the event has grown to include music, food stands, individual vendors, and booths promoting various service organizations.

This year's attendees will enjoy musical performances on two stages by local groups the Washington Band, folksinger Jay Smar, Keystone Capital Chorus, folk musician Chris Nelson, the Mockingbirds, JC Fetlock, Jim Ruhl, Quittapahilla Highlanders, and Lee Moyer of Marty’s Music.

Nearly 100 vendors and organizations will fill the street, and St. Anthony's Coptic Orthodox Church will offer tours showing paintings and other historical items on display inside. The Annville Train Station on North Moyer Street will display a number of running model trains. Community members will also be able to enjoy the new park at the northeast corner of routes 422 and 934, which celebrated a grand opening June 7.

LVC's own resident historian and College Chaplain, the Rev. Paul Fullmer, will display an electronic archive of Annville's historical records. Property owners will be able to look up historical data for their homes. At last year's fair, Fullmer released a pictorial history of the town in the book "Annville Township."

In addition to Historic Old Annville Days, the town celebrates Independence Day with Lebanon Valley College’s presentation of an outdoor Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra concert. In August, a National Night Out unites local law enforcement and first responders with the community. Learn more about Annville by visiting www.annvilletwp.com.
