Attention summer residents! Whether still on campus for a job or for classes, do not let this summer be all work and no play. Here are some ideas for cooling off, exploring the area, and making memories of your time in Central Pennsylvania. Be sure to visit LVC’s “Around Town” Pinterest board for inspiration at http://pinterest.com/lvc1866.

Grab some Grub
On Rte. 422 near Hershey exists a popular restaurant called Dukes Bar & Grille. Sit outside on the deck and enjoy the Maryland Crab Pretzel, a huge soft pretzel smothered in crab dip and cheese.

For more outdoor dining, visit Mt. Gretna’s Jigger Shop. The Jigger Shop has particularly famous ice cream options and a large, scenic outdoor dining area situated in the woods. Enjoy a flaming Baked Alaska or a Peach Melba containing an enormous, whole, fresh peach.

Honey Bear Orchards in Lebanon offers the freshest fruit available since its customers pick what they want right off the tree! For a fun time in the great outdoors and some delicious, well-priced fruit, check out Honey Bear Orchards at 1819 Thompson Avenue in Lebanon.

Go for a Ride
Join the local community and ride the Ferris wheel at the Lebanon Area Fair from Saturday, July 28 until Saturday, Aug. 4. Bands including local favorite “Flamin’ Dick and the Hot Rods” will perform and many stands, contests, and exhibits will be open to enjoy. The fair is located at 80 Rocherty Road in Lebanon.

If rides at the fair are not thrilling enough, take a trip to Hersheypark to ride their newest roller coaster, Skyrush. With a height of 200 feet, Skyrush has the highest drop at the park. It also has winged seats that allow riders to hang over the sides of the track and experience the thrill of flying through the air. Visitors can enter the park at half-price after 3 p.m. on a night when the park closes at 6 p.m. Visit the Hersheypark website at http://www.hersheypark.com for exact rates.

Cool Down
When it gets too hot for comfort, it’s time to go for a swim. In addition to the famous ice cream, Mt. Gretna has a picturesque lake and beach. The lake has a diving board, high-dive, and over-water swing as well as a snack bar and a sand-volleyball court. Day passes are available.

Look for more ideas on Pinterest and at www.lvc.edu for additional College events, such as the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra concert June 29 at 8 p.m. on the Academic Quad.
