Meet Sean Droms, New Assistant Professor of Mathematics at LVC
10.14.13 |
Q: What classes will you be teaching at LVC?
A: This semester, I will be teaching Finite Mathematics, Calculus 1, and Calculus 3.

Q: What is your educational background and teaching experience?
A: I went to the University of Mary Washington for my undergraduate degree in mathematics, and the University of Virginia for my Ph.D. in mathematics. At UVA, I taught various levels of calculus. I'm excited to branch out a bit here at LVC and teach some new courses.

Q: What is your first impression of Annville/Central Pa.?
A: I love the rolling hills and open, grassy areas of Central Pa. Everyone in the area has been amazingly friendly, especially the faculty and students here at LVC. I will miss the mountains of western Virginia, but so far I've really enjoyed getting to know the Annville area.

Q: What excites you about teaching at The Valley?
A: Everyone at LVC has been so welcoming and helpful! I've made tons of friends in the faculty and staff, and I'm very excited to get to know all my students and work with them this semester. The facilities on campus are great. I absolutely love the Lynch building. The department suites and other common spaces really make it an open, inviting area to learn.

Q: Tell us something interesting about yourself – crazy hobby? Weird talent?
A: I don't think any of my hobbies are too weird... I like hiking, camping, kayaking, and anything that gets me outdoors for a while. I hope to get into a little woodworking whenever I find some spare time. I am indeed a citizen of three countries, including Switzerland and Portugal.

Q: What events are you looking forward to attending on campus this fall?
A: One of the events I'm most looking forward to is the “American Algorists” exhibition at the Arnold Art Gallery. Lots of mathematicians and computer scientists have used their field to create amazing art, and it's always great to see it in the public eye. The associated Colloquium talk by Manfred Mohr sounds like it will be fascinating!
