Lebanon Valley College students will square off on today's top policy issues in a campus debate on Oct. 17 from 7 to 9 p.m. in Leedy Theater of the Mund College Center. Community attendees are welcome to attend and to participate in the public forum section of the debate.

Students representing the College Democrats, College Conservatives, and HYPE (the history, political science, and economics club) will share their positions on matters of foreign policy, health care, immigration, unemployment, education, inequality, veterans affairs, and voter identification legislation. Specifically, they will address the Arab Spring, the threat of a nuclear-armed Iran, the Syrian conflict, the war in Afghanistan, the Affordable Care Act or "Obamacare," reproductive rights, gay marriage, gender inequality, and racial inequality.

"We believe that every campus voice deserves to be heard," Doug Waterman said, president of College Democrats. "We hope to fairly represent the majority viewpoint of the student body, but welcome all opinions and political ideals. By debating in an organized event, we hope to empower students to get involved and share their passions this election year."

The debate will conclude with a public forum for community members and the student body to present their own questions and opinions. All activities will be overseen by a faculty moderator.

Contact Doug Waterman ( or Marissa Laudeman ( for additional information or questions.Visit for LVC's full election coverage. Political opinions and commentary are available at the Election Blog.
