Student Athlete Affairs: Overview
The Department of Athletics and Recreation as a part of the Division of Student Affairs provides campus-wide programming for the enhancement of the student-athlete experience, particularly in the areas of academic excellence, athletic excellence, personal development, career development and community service.
The Goal of the SAA Program is to enhance student development in each of the five commitment areas.
1. Commitment to Academic Excellence
To support the academic progress of the student-athlete toward intellectual development and graduation.
2. Commitment to Athletic Excellence
To build philosophically foundations for the development of athletics programs that are broad-based, equitable and dedicated to the well-being of the student-athletes
3. Commitment to Personal Development
To support the development of a well-balanced lifestyle for student-athletes, encourage emotional well-being, leadership, personal growth and decision-making skills.
4. Commitment to Career Development
To encourage the student-athlete to develop and pursue career and life goals.
5. Commitment to Service
To engage the student-athlete in service to his or her campus and surrounding communities.
