RSS Feeds
What is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is an XML-based format for disseminating real-time information via subscription on the Internet.
Using RSS, Web content providers can easily create and disseminate feeds of data that include, for example, news links, headlines, and summaries.
The Bishop Library uses RSS to publish daily listings of new items received and added in the last 30 days.
How to use RSS:
Web browsers such as Explorer, Firefox and Safari may already have the built-in ability to detect and read RSS. Just look for the
icon on your browser window when you load a web page.
News Aggregators (also called news readers) will download and display RSS feeds for you. A number of free and commercial News Aggregators are available for download. Popular news readers include NetNewsWire for Mac, NewzCrawler for Windows, and AmphetaDesk for Mac, Windows, and Linux among many other programs you can download and try out.
Once you have downloaded your news aggregator, you can put news feeds into your news aggregator. You can do this by right-clicking (or control-clicking on the Mac) on an RSS
icon, copy the shortcut/link location, and pasting it into the news aggregator.
Terms of Use:
The LVC Bishop Library RSS feeds are provided free to individuals and non-profit organizations.
