Welcome to the Vernon and Doris Bishop Library

The Vernon and Doris Bishop Library, built in 1995, serves as the academic center of the college. Containing over 215,000 books, CDs, DVDs, videocassettes, and microfilm and 840 journal subscriptions, the library also features an online library catalog, wireless access to the campus network*, group study rooms, faculty study areas, a computer classroom, the Writing Center, a periodical reading room, and numerous private reading alcoves. In house materials are supplemented by access to over 70 online databases and online access to over 24,000 full-text journals and newspapers.

The library, with certain restrictions, may be used by all LVC alumni, anyone residing in a 170- ZIP code, and all students from an Associated College Libraries of Central Pennsylvania (ACLCP) member institution.

The mission of the Bishop Library is to support LVC and its educational programs by assisting the college community and other affiliated users with access to information, to provide or facilitate access to information contained in print and non-print resources that supplement classroom instruction, to provide leadership in library instruction, and to encourage students to utilize library resources independently as a means of life long learning in keeping with the mission of the College.

*Anyone with a wireless Mac or PC notebook and a valid user account may access the LVC network from within the library. For set up information, see setting up your wireless notebook. Students and faculty can also bring a non-wireless notebook into the Bishop Library but be sure to have an Ethernet cable in order to plug into any of the many online dataports available in the library. Four wireless Notebook PCs are available at the circulation desk to be checked out for in library use only. These Notebooks have the standard set of college PC applications including the Microsoft Office Suite.
