Leadership LVC
Leadership Development at LVC seeks to support the College’s call to prepare our students to be “people of broad vision, capable of making informed decisions” and help them “acquire the skills and knowledge necessary to live and work in our rapidly changing world.” In the spirit of collaboration with various campus offices and academic departments, Leadership LVC will provide active and passive opportunities to enhance student learning and development and assist all students with developing their potential to create meaningful, positive change in themselves, their organizations, and their community.
Leadership Development at LVC includes the following:
- The EDGE (Effective Development through Guided Education): What separates The EDGE from other leadership development programs is that students will have the option to complete leadership certificates that are either sequential (Bronze, Silver, or Gold) or specialized (Community Service and Engagement, Athletic, or Diversity and Social Justice). Programs are offered throughout the academic year.
- The President's Council: The President's Council's mission is to provide structured opportunities for the presidents of campus organizations to assess current issues with their organizations and seek assistance from other leaders on how to solve them. In addition, the PC is an additional sounding board for campus concerns and a vehicle for change.
- Leadership Development Educators: LDEs are students chosen based upon their leadership ability to facilitate programs through a variety of venues including EDGE programs and on an as-requested basis.
- The Student Leadership Resource Center (housed in the Student Government Office, lower level of the College Center): the SLRC provides office space and materials for the Leadership Development Educators, Student Government, and the Office of Student Activities.
- The Social Justice Institute (co-sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs): The 5th Annual Social Justice Institute will be held on January 12-14, 2012. The Social Justice Institute provides an intensive, experiential-based program designed to inspire and encourage students to not just understand and appreciate differences based on race, class, gender, sexual orientation, and level of ability, but to take direct action to bring about equality.
