As the new president of Lebanon Valley College, I knew it would be important to learn about the history of the College. There are many reasons to read the Centennial History, but one of the most important is to understand this profound statement:
“[LVC] was created by good but unlearned people who shared a vision of the good life and took the best way they could think of to preserve it for their children and their children’s children.”
These good people gathered together gifts of all sizes and started a college that is now approaching 150 years of existence. It is for this reason that contributions to the College have a greater meaning at LVC than at some other colleges; they are a reaffirmation of what the founding donors intended and of our mission today.
On behalf of the entire campus community, I am pleased to share the Honor Roll of Donors for the year that ended June 30, 2012. This report celebrates a community of individuals who contributed more than $2.45 million to support our students and faculty. Lebanon Valley College is stronger as a result of the gifts of all sizes that are contributed.
Your love of the College is nowhere more apparent than in the pages that follow. Each name reflects a donor—alumnus, parent, friend, foundation, or corporation—who cares deeply about the power of a liberal education and about the quality of the educational experience at Lebanon Valley College.
During the most recent academic year, almost 700 volunteers assisted the College in a variety of ways. Our online program, Career Connections, accounted for 515 alumni engaging with LVC students as mentors, career network contacts, and career resources.
Funds to enable the completion of the Mund Center under the capable and far-sighted leadership of my predecessor, Stephen MacDonald, combined with gifts for the turf field and athletic complex, Arnold grants, diversity funds, and the Valley Fund mean so much to all of us today.
My sincere thanks to all whose generosity and service have made Lebanon Valley College what it is today.
With warmest regards,
Lewis E. Thayne, Ph.D.
College President
