History & Political Science
Welcome to the Department of History and Political Science's home page. Whether you are a current or future major, wish to satisfy a general education requirement, or just take classes that interest you, we have a lot to offer. We invite you to take a look at our programs and our wide variety of classes in History, Historical Communications, Political Science, International Relations, and Law and Society.
Our department is friendly and student-centered, and we promote a lively scholarly experience. The seven full-time professors are highly trained and dedicated teacher-scholars who are devoted to student achievement and also are actively engaged in their own scholarship.
Majoring in one of our programs will help you gain skills that employers seek, preparing you for whatever career path you choose. These skills include the ability to think and communicate clearly, to find information, and to analyze ideas and evidence. Our alumni have gotten jobs in diverse fields, including education, law, business, journalism, and policy analysis. Many have gone on to prestigious graduate or law schools.
But more than just preparing you for the future, we also provide a community. We want to help you get the most from college life. Faculty members know their students well and keep in touch with many after they graduate. Students in our department form strong friendships.
We recognize that some of the most valuable experiences at college occur outside the traditional classroom. To that end, the department encourages majors to participate in student clubs and service learning, to study abroad, and to do internships. We offer opportunities to pursue student-faculty research, present papers at conferences, participate in a European Union Simulation, go on field trips, and attend stimulating guest lectures.
We hope that you find what you're looking for on these pages. If you have other questions, please contact us.
