Montgomery GI Bill - Ch 1606
The Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606) program may be available to you if you are a member of the Selected Reserve, which includes the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve and Coast Guard Reserve, and the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard.

Eligibility for this program is determined by the Selected Reserve components and all payments for this program are made by the VA. Payments will not be made during periods that the student is not attending classes. For example, if the Fall term ends on December 15th and the Spring term begins on January 10th, the January housing allowance will cover 15 days in December and the February housing allowance will cover 21 days in January.
To qualify, a student must:
- Have a six-year obligation to serve in the Selected Reserve signed after June 30, 1985
- Complete initial active duty for training (IADT)
- Meet the requirement to receive a high school diploma or equivalency certificate before completing IADT
- Remain in good standing while serving in an active Selected Reserve unit
