Digital Communications

Among all occupations in the economy, technology occupations account for five of the 20 fastest-growing careers.

DigiCOM is an innovative, interdisciplinary approach to emerging media and technology in which students integrate business, communications, design, and programming. They collaborate with faculty on creative and research projects, serve as project managers, and work with real clients. They design mobile apps, develop advertising campaigns, create branded identities, and develop start-ups and e-business plans.

DigiCOM students apply what they've learned to the intersection of the digital and physical. The major provides hands-on experience using industry-standard software, disruptive technologies (such as the department's 3D printer), and emerging media and technologies (such as tablets and mobile devices).

Students gain broad knowledge of theory, methods and research, design, business, communications, programming, and professional development. They choose a concentration in business technology, communications, programming, design, user experience, or video.

Students also develop professionally. All students design a portfolio of their accomplishments, work with real clients, and take at least three credits of internship. Students have interned in fields such as information design, usability, web and graphic design, public relations and advertising, e-commerce, marketing, project management, and video. By the end of four years, students are prepared to enter the workforce.
