What is counseling?
Counseling is a process in which a student enters into a relationship with a trained professional in order to gain deeper self-understanding and to identify more effective ways of responding to life's stresses.
When should a student seek counseling?
A student usually seeks counseling when the problem or the emotional discomfort tells you something needs attention or interferes with your ability to focus or enjoy activities. Don't suffer needlessly; counseling is an expression of self caring.
How does a student make an appointment at counseling services?
A student can call x6696 or if one cannot reach the Director of Counseling a student can call Health Services at x6232 to schedule an appointment. In the event of an after-hour emergency, please contact a member of the residential life or public safety staff.
Is there a fee for counseling services?
There is no additional fee to see a counselor for short term counseling.
Are counseling services confidential?
Counseling services are considered private and shall not be shared without the student's permission. Only in cases that threaten harm to self and/or others is information shared with those who need to know.
