Results from Major Field Test in Chemistry
Every year in the month of May, the LVC Chemistry Department administers the Major Field Examination in Chemistry to ALL graduating chemistry majors (not biochemistry/molecular biology majors, however). The exam is created by the Educational Testing Service (ETS) and is used by many colleges and universities nationwide to assess knowledge acquired during a four-year degree program in chemistry.
Using the ETS scores, the cohort of graduating seniors at Lebanon Valley College can be compared with graduates from other colleges and universities across the nation. The ETS exam provides assessments in Physical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Overall Chemistry, Biochemistry, and Critical Thinking. Percentile Scores for graduating LVC chemistry cohorts are provided below for the past five years.
The average ETS score for a graduating LVC chemistry class during the past five years has been top 20% of graduating classes nationwide. Note also the strong preformance of the LVC chemists in the area of critical thinking.
