We've compiled a list of places you can visit while in New York City. Remember, you’ll be there for 8.5 hours, so don’t over-plan. Enjoy the day and take in the hustle and bustle of the city that never sleeps!
Planning a girls’ day out? Head over to SoHo and Herald Square for shopping, spas, free wine tasting, and everything else you love!
Day trip for two? Couples will love East Village and Union Square. You’ll find street fairs or farmers markets and performers in Union Square. Then, you can walk over to East Village and have dinner at a live jazz restaurant or relax at a wine bar.
Make it a family affair! There’s something for everyone in New York City. Have each person in your family pick out a place they want to visit from the list below!
Shopping and Restaurants
Chinatown
Head downtown on the 6 train to Canal Street to bargain for “designer” purses, accessories, and more. Great Chinese, Thai and Viet food. Also, within walking distance of
City Hall and the
Brooklyn Bridge.
Subway: 6 or NQRW train to Canal Street
SoHo
Your NYC shopping experience continues down Broadway with countless stores including Banana Republic, Gap, Old Navy, Express, Ann Taylor, David Z shoe stores, and much more. There are tons of antique and boutique shops along the side streets off Broadway. Pretty much endless shopping- something for everyone.
Subway: 6 or NQRW train to Spring or Prince Street (use the Broadway exit)
Union Square
DSW, Filene’s Basement, Forever 21, American Eagle, Strawberry, Diesel, Shoe Mania, and the Virgin Mobile Super Store. Also a major hang out for NYU students – Whole Foods is there, lots of entertainment on the steps in the Square (vendors, performers, farmers market). Definitely a fun area.
Try Max Brenner. Not only do they have good food, they also have chocolate desserts that are to die for! In fact, Max Brenner is famous for its chocolate menu- there’s even chocolate pizza! Union Square is within walking distance to East Village.
Subway: 6 or NQRW train to Union Square
Herald Square
Shopping Fever. Macy’s–the LARGEST store in the WORLD spans the width of one block. Tons of shopping- Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, Gap, Express, Zara, Victoria’s Secret, Daffy’s… so much more to name. A fun area to walk around and it’s within walking distance to the
Empire State Building.
Subway: NQRW train to 34th St/Herald Square
East Village
You’ll find more shops and restaurants in a very “hip” neighborhood. This is within walking distance to Union Square.
Subway: 6 train to Astor Place, walk east.
Century 21
Designer clothing and accessories at incredibly low prices. Great place to stop if you are heading to Ground Zero (across the street).
Subway: 2 or 3 train to Park Pl, or RW train to Rector St., or E train to World Trade Center.
Fifth Avenue
Visit

Subway: 6 train to 86 st. or, access the Museum from Central Park! It’s right alongside of it.
The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA)
Visit http://www.moma.org/ for a list of the famous works of modern art the MoMA has to offer.
11 West 53 Street, between Fifth and Sixth avenues
Subway: E or V train to Fifth Avenue/53 Street; B, D, or F train to 47-50 Streets/Rockefeller Center.
Ground Zero
Although you can hardly see through the fence, visiting Ground Zero is still a somber experience.
Subway: 2 or 3 train to Park Pl, or RW train to Rector St., or E train to World Trade Center
The Empire State Building
Purchase tickets to check out the observatory deck for a beautiful view of the city.
Fifth Avenue and 34th Street
Subway: NQRW to Herald Sq. – 34th St.
Meatpacking District
This is a beautiful area to see if you want to spend the day sightseeing and exploring high-end shops and restaurants. You may recognize it from the movie Sex and the City.
Times Square
You can’t go wrong here! MTV Studios, M&M’s World, Hershey’s Times Square Store, Toys “R” Us, shopping, and more!

Rockefeller Plaza
Ice skating and The Today Show may ring a bell…
5th Avenue
Central Park
Take a walk in the park and enjoy the little extras you may find along the way!
Enjoy a Broadway show
Get tickets online or try standing in line to get half price tickets in Times Square or South Street Seaport.

FAO Schwartz
The ultimate toy store. Be sure to visit the Big Piano from the movie, Big.

Subway Tips
When getting on the subway, be sure you know whether you should be going uptown or downtown to your destination. Always have a map of the city and don’t be afraid to ask locals for dirtions!
Study your map before you go! If you plan to shop all day, you’ll notice that you can hop on the subway and make stops from Canal Street to SoHo to Union Square to Herald Square. All are on the same train lines!
If all else fails, enjoy the experience of hailing a New York City taxi cab!
