LVC Freedom Week Celebrates 20 Years March 10-15
03.06.14 |
Lebanon Valley College’s Office of Multicultural Affairs and Freedom Rings student organization are co-sponsoring the 20th year of Freedom Week on campus March 10-15. Freedom Week is filled with activities that promote lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) awareness.

The week’s schedule is as follows:

Mon., Mar. 10
  • Rainbow Run, 9 p.m., Social Quad

Tue., Mar. 11
  • Suicide Awareness Day
  • "Jim in Bold" screening, 7 p.m., Chapel 101

Wed., Mar. 12
  • "Beyond Binaries: Identity and Sexual Orientation" presentation by Robyn Ochs, 7 p.m., Chapel 101
"Beyond Binaries: Identity and Sexual Orientation" explores the landscape of sexual orientation and how we “map” sexual orientation. No two people are exactly alike, so how do we assign labels to our complicated and unique experiences? Ochs will anonymously survey and analyze where we fall on the sexuality continuum and how we label. The program will explore different experiences of identity; the complexity of attraction and more.

Ochs is a national speaker, award-winning activist, and the editor of the 42-country anthology, "Getting Bi: Voices of Bisexuals Around the World and the Bi Women" quarterly. Her writings have been published in numerous bi, women’s studies, multicultural, and LGBTQ anthologies.

Thurs., Mar 13
  • 80s/90s Drag Bingo, 7 p.m., LVC Underground

Fri., Mar. 14
  • Drag Show, 10 p.m., Leedy Theater

Sat., Mar. 15
  • "Rocky Horror Picture Show," 12 a.m., Allen Theatre
  • Freedom Rings Alumni Brunch, 11 a.m., Lehr Dining Room
  • "Vagina Monologues," 2 & 7 p.m., Leedy Theater
“Vagina Monologues” is a series of monologues about sex, love, rape, menstruation, and other female issues. The show has been performed in more than 130 countries and translated into 45 languages. Tickets are free for LVC students, $5 for non-LVC students, and $10 for the general public. All proceeds from the show will benefit organizations devoted to eradicating violence against women.

In addition to these public events, Freedom Rings will be selling commemorative Freedom Week t-shirts in Mund College Center during lunch hours all week.
