Oktoberfest 2013: Homecoming and Family Weekend Promises Days of Fun and Celebration
10.03.13 |
Lebanon Valley College’s annual Oktoberfest festivities will be held Friday, Oct. 11 and Saturday, Oct. 12, 2013. Oktoberfest combines the traditions of Homecoming and Family Weekend, bringing alumni, parents, family members, friends, and current students of LVC together on campus for a two-day celebration.

The weekend kicks off Friday with the Fifth Annual LVC Athletic Golf Classic at Fairview Golf Course in Lebanon. The athletic fundraiser will begin at 11 a.m.

Students are invited to attend a variety of events Friday, including a pep rally at 7 p.m. at Arnold Field, followed by a fireworks display at 7:30 p.m. In addition, an inflatable carnival will be held in Arnold Sports Center at 8 p.m. Dr. Kevin Pry ’76 will lead two “Ghosts of LVC” walking tours, meeting at 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. outside of the Mund College Center. Stand-up comedian and mind reader Eric Dittleman will perform at 9 p.m. in Lutz Hall for all students and guests.

Saturday’s events begin with the Oktoberfest Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. in the Mund College Center. Parents are invited to a casual drop-in breakfast with LVC’s 18th President, Dr. Lewis Evitts Thayne, and members of the College administration.

Throughout the day on Saturday, a variety of athletic events, tours, and cookouts will encourage all Dutchmen to share their school spirit, with activities for all ages and interests. Campus departments and offices will be open between 10 a.m. and noon. Alumni and families are invited to connect with faculty members or check out the latest student projects, research, departmental achievements, and upcoming events.

Future Dutchmen activities and the Oktoberfest BBQ lunch will begin at 11 a.m. in preparation for the football game against Lycoming College, which kicks off at 1 p.m. at Arnold Field. A pre-game show will feature the 2013 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductees, and a field hockey jersey retirement ceremony will honor Jocelyn Novak ’12.

Current students and parents can attend the 5th Quarter Oktoberfest Challenge from 4-5:30 p.m. in Lutz Hall. LVC’s faculty, administrators, and homecoming king and queen will compete in 60-second challenges with objects that are commonly used around the house.

The weekend concludes with the Athletic Hall of Fame Reception in the Mund College Center’s Lehr and Phillips Dining Rooms at 6:15 p.m.
